Bibleman

This is why it's so hard to make fun of the evangelical right: you can't make up anything funnier than the real thing. They are their own caricatures.

Bibleman is coming, and he's ready to smite you. More specifically, in his newest episode, he's ready to smite his arch nemesis Wacky Protester, who aims to to create a world where there will be no Christians, no churches, no Bibles, and no God! Wacky Protester (pictured in blue to the right) is armed with his latest Anti-Christian weapon - the NeuroIconoclasticSkeptisiser, which he uses to lure unwitting Vacation Bible School students into his Animated Reconstructive Transport (A.R.T.), where they will be trapped in a world where there are no rules, no faith, no hope and no future! But Wacky Protester is no match for Bibleman, who grunts scripture and seethes dialog like "The full armor of God. Never leave home without it."

If it's possible to track a culture by monitoring it's cartoon characters and puppets, then Bibleman warrants some special attention. His enemies are protesters, skeptics, homosexuals, art and Jews. And Ricky Martin.

Perhaps Sally Robinson should be added to this list.

OH- and here is the real kicker: Guess who Bibleman is? Willie Aimes. That's right.... his career can get worse than eight is enough, charles in charge and zapped.

*Sigh*
It's because of things like this that I become increasingly uncomfortable being called a "Christian". I have so much I could say about Bibleman, but I'm feeling pretty emotional about it at the moment, so I'd probably better wait a while. Maybe "ugh" will suffice for right now.

you either laugh at your brothers or cry. on this one, i choose to laugh. i mean, come on...it's bibleman--that's some funny stuff.

I think it was funny until Bibleman became a culture warrior. At that point it hits a little too close to home to laugh at. I wonder if Bibleman made it to the Justice Sunday II rally in Nashville?

I also found a message board where "biblemanites" fought over whether Bibleman could take Thor in a fight. It was a very serious discussion.

It is funny. I have close kin who enthusiastically absorb every new video, and play with licensed Bibleman merchandise.

The fact that they have become culture warriors reflects poorly on them. Culture warriors are really ego warriors after all. But I'm not too worried about their adoring child fans... Like all other kid obsessions, all that will be left by the time the teen years arrive is, at most, a silly, campy fondness. They'll be laughing at themselves in a few years... and most likely at their former mentors.

It's not the children that I worry about. It's the fact that Bibleman represents the ideals of his creators. Bibleman has moved from fighting against villians that represent rage and pride to fighting a villian that represents a culture with "wacky" ideas. This comes at a time when I think the American Christian church is becoming entirely too focused on winning the "culture war".

Fight that culture, Bibleman! Fight it just like Jesus did! Like when he...um...uh...yeah.

sorry to look silly, but all i know about bibleman is that he's some dude dressed up real funny and is called bibleman.

that's what i thought was funny. guess i should do my homework...but i don't really...want to...at least not for bibleman.

there will always be crappy theology dressed up in bibleman garb.
